The Girl Scouts of California are taking on the marijuana industry. In a typical outrageous fashion the marijuana dispensaries are treading on other brands by knocking off their brand names for their marijuana products. See this drug ad that is trading on the Girl Scout Cookie brand.
Phillip Drum, PharmD who lost his sister to a marijuana impaired driver says, “They need to be told this is completely unacceptable behavior – the POT industry does not care that they break laws. How wrong is this that they claim MEDICAL purposes and then hide under the name of the Girl Scouts – despicable.”
How long are sensible Californians willing to look the other way while this scandalous industry continues to gain power and go rogue over our federal drug laws?!
Magnolia, a California pot dispensary has already removed the ‘Girl Scout’ labeled products off their shelves in response to a cease and desist letter sent to them by the Girl Scouts of America. One cannabis media publication reports that many such trademark infringements are common in the industry, and that others may soon come under scrutiny. The article mentions the illicit use of brand identities of Gorilla Glue, Star Trek, and Star Wars, even children’s cereals. And, it is well known that popular candies, cookies and pizza, all childhood favorites, are also infused with this powerful hallucinogen.
The trademark violations are happening elsewhere, also. Here is an article from Las Vegas, Nevada on 2/28/17, Parents Upset with ‘Gurl Scout Cookies’ Marijuana Strain.
The California Girl Scouts and their lawyers will likely be successful in putting a stop to the California marijuana dealers capitalizing on their good name. We hope other states will follow suit. Let’s just hope the Girl Scout Troop Leaders also teach the young girls they mentor about the dangers of drug use and how to “just say no” to drug use.
